Show Punch Boards Are Banned in City Punch boards of all descriptions are to be driven from the city, according to an edict that came from the members mem-bers of the city council at a special meeting held last Saturday night. Marshal Tollestrup was instructed to notify the different business men who are operating punch boards that they must forego operating and each place j was given ten days to comply with the new order. Another order issued was to the effect that minors will be kept from the pool hall. It will be the policy to put a check to the habit many of the boys under 21 years of age have had of loafing and playing pool at the hall. "The law strictly provides provid-es against boys being allowed in the pool halls," said Mayor Christiansen, Christian-sen, "and all we want to do is to enforce the ordinance, feeling of course that it will be much better for the young men of the city. We want to. regulate the city ordinances as they are and in doing so, should not work a , hardship on anyone. If a law is good enough to be on the books, it should be good enough to observe." The matter of naming a city treasurer treas-urer is still pending. Miss Evelyn Fjeldsted, who was duly elected, has refused to qualify, notwithstanding the urgent requests by her friends. It is likely that the naming of a city treasurer will be taken up at the next regular meeting. Another important matter to be acted on at the Saturday night meeting, meet-ing, was the collection of the tax. It is proposed to require owners of dogs to pay licenses and to have the license tags attached to collars. If you value your hound see the license collector. |
