Four delegates from Soviet Russia, headed by K. V. Xekrashevick, vice president of "Sakharotrest," came to the United Mates several months ago, to attempt reestablishment of the trade which existed between America and Russia prior to fifteen years ' ago, when nearly all of the sugar, beet seed used here was of Russian import. 1 Due to Utah's extensive sugar beet industry, the delegation spent con-' con-' sidcrable time here studying the farm ' anil factory situations, and obtaining! data regarding modern methods of ; handling and transporting and up-to-! date sugar factory facilities, with a j : view to introducing them into the ! ' construction of several new plants! which, Mr. Nekrashevich said, are j soon to be built in his country. j "In preliminary tests of Russian' varieties conducted at Logan last : year by the Utah Experiment station," sta-tion," Mr. Stewart declared, "Five commercial and ten new plant breed-i breed-i ing varieties were analyzed. In the I tests, two or three of these strains 1 showed considerable promise, giving 1 from 10 to 20 per cent increase in yields. Sugar in all the tested varieties var-ieties was slightly higher than in the j commercial strain being used here at j present." Besides Mr. Nekrashevich, the delegation, dele-gation, which was extensively entertained enter-tained by- members of the chamber of commerce and men connected with the Utah sugar industry during its stay here, includes H. Lukikov, chief engineer; A. Korchoff, chief agriculturist, agricul-turist, and T. Wilga, interpreter. All ; are connected with the "Sakharotrest." "Sakharo-trest." The party also includes J. W.
