Show j ' VICTORY IS NEAR IN BATTLE j AGAINST DREAD CORN BORER I I One of the greatest battles in mod- ern history a peace-timq battle, but 'a bitter one, nevertheless is now be- I ing waged against an enemy that lhas threatened $10,000,000,000,000 i worth of American crops. The fed- eral government has appropriated the sum of ?10,000,000 to carry on the fight and several state legislatures have been enlisted in the cause. For the enemy is the European corn borer the most deadly menace that has ever made its appearance in the corn fields of the country. Although victory in this war is now in sight, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, it jean only be won by keeping up the ' fight, until the "assassin of the corn i field" is thoroughly whipped. And 1 that is a matter which is everybody's concern not only the farmer who raises corn but everyone who is in any way connected with the agricultural agricul-tural industry. There is an interesting interest-ing feature article about the corn borer menace in this issue of the News.' Be sure' to read "Control of the Corn Borer" by Elmo Scott V.'at-pon, V.'at-pon, in this newspaper. |
