Show Expert Tells How to Increase Income "Why the farmers of Sevier county should increase their acreage this year," is the title of an interesting article appearing in the latest issue of the Sugar Cossette, by C. B. White. Mr. White, who has given the subject thorough study, shows the beet growers how they can materially material-ly increase their income by increasing increas-ing their acreage, and if followed out, an additional $110,000 would fall into the offers of the growers. For the benefit of the growers of Gunnison Valley, the article written by Mr. White is herewith reproduced: "The thing that Sevier county needs is more industries and larger pay rolls, and in order) to get this it is necessary that every one support the industries which we have before other enterprises can become interested, inter-ested, here. Farmers of Sevier county should increase their acreage this year and I am giving below approximately approxi-mately the amount of money which an increase of 25 per cent would mean to us. Figuring beets at $6.00 per ton which will be the very lowest figure obtained for next year's crop, we find that this increase of 25 per cent in acreage will amount to approximately ap-proximately $110,000 to our county. In this figure I am taking into consideration con-sideration the increase in pay roll created by a longer operating period and the extra expense which is distributed dis-tributed throughout the county in handling the increase in tonnage. ' Practically all of this money is circulated cir-culated and spent in our loality, there- J fore, we should work for an increase 1 in acreage this coming season. "We sometimes hear some of our people make the remark that the sugar business is of no advantage in this county, but let me state that it is practically the only industry of anv consequence we have, and which ' assures the farmers a cash crop, besides be-sides putting into circulation practically prac-tically one-half million dollars each year. "While it is somewhat off the sub-ioct sub-ioct of acreage we wish to call the attention of the farmers to the new 1926 beet contract. You will note that by increasing trie sugar content of the beet crop of this district from lfi per cent suerar to 18 per cent I sugar and figuring the price of sugar ; at J6.00 that this increase in sugar ' content makes a difference of $1.14 per ton, therefore, it is to the ad-j ad-j vantae of everv farmer to see that j his crop is handled in the very best j possible manner in order that this : sugar content may be increased, i "With these facts in mind we hone the farmers will get in touch with their fieldmen at an early date, and see that vour acreage is materially increased." |
