Show OLD FOLKS BROKEN RANK The following roll call, written in rhyme and prepared by'Nephi Gled-hill, Gled-hill, was given at the Old Folks reunion, re-union, held in this city last week. As an introductory Mr. Gledhill mention-ad mention-ad the departed women numbered with the old folks, aside from the wives of the men to be here honorable honor-able mentioned, as follows: . Margaret Marga-ret Duffin, Gustava Capson, Amelia Beauregard, Lena Anderson, Mary R. Gledhill, Eliza' R. Bartholomew and Nora Jensen. Christian A. Madsen. Where may that valiant man be ? No Response ? Departed to the goodly land, where from trouble now he's free. Carl A. Swalberg! That blacksmith strong and brave! Not Here ? Then he, too, must be resting be- yond the silent grave. Frederick Ludvigson! That generous soul of yore! No answer? Plainly, he's mingling with the dear friends gone before. A. U. Melquist! That patient public stay! , Absent? Rest assured he's truly happy in heaven's refuge(far away. Niels C. Sorenson! Our ready-witted friend! Not present? Rest content; he'll our cause forever for-ever defend. Anthony Metcalf True servant in civil affairs! Seems he's gone! But no need of regret that he left it his world of cares. James L. Kearns! Who suffered long with pain! Away, of course! Consoling is the thought of meeting meet-ing him again. James P. Fjeldsted! The last man we're to name! No reply ? Well he's satisfied with rest among friends of soldier fame. The wives, too, of these men let's remember aright, For all, save two, have shared in death's fight. These, all, were full of hope and sunshine, sun-shine, whose waves o'er flowed with love. Their presence ever cheered our hearts, a remembrance till we meet above. One by one we leave life's stage when wisdom's race is run; May our life be found to be good and pure when our earthly work is done! |
