Show Club Operations Highly Praised Operations of the Gunnison Hol-stein Hol-stein Heifer club was minutely inspected in-spected last Tuesday by the visitation visita-tion of W. H. Olin, agricultural supervisor sup-ervisor for the Denver & Rio Grande railroad, and C. 0. Stott, county agent. The visitors made a tour of the valley where club members were caring for the calves and cows recently recent-ly shipped here from Washington, and at every place a close inspection of the procedure of developing better and finer dairy herds. Mr. Olin, one of the best posted men of the west on the dairy business, gave brief talks at the various places and stressed the fact that more care and better feeding was necessary to achieve the high standard of success. He urged the club members to stay with the business and pointed out that success in this line was sure to make a sue- cessful and thriving community. Mr. j Stott? also gave some good advice to the boys and commended them upon their start. On September 11, 'the members of the local club will hold what is to be known as an "achievement day." At this time all of the Holstein heifers and calves, as well as the sheep, will be placed on exhibition and the member mem-ber that make the .best showing in both sheep and cattle will have the privilege o entering his stock at the county fair at Manti next month. Considerable interest is being shown in this movement and with the announcement an-nouncement that competent judges will be on' hand it is expected the exhibition ex-hibition will see some close contests. The exhibition will be held at the high school grounds and all interested are invited to be present and see the stock. Only recently the members of the Holstein club made a trip to Manti where they inspected the stock belonging be-longing to the club at that city. The visit proved highly profitable and much information was gained by the Gunnison lads. The boys also visited the pea canning factory and witnessed witness-ed the operation of the big factory turning out the canned dainties and the labelling process. Returning a stop was made at Chrystal Springs where a dip in the waters was enjoyed. |
