Show Addition to Maytag Factory In a recent interview with Mr. F. L. Maytag, founder of the Maytag Company and chairman of the board ' of directors, he recently announced ' that his company would increase the ' output of their factory at Newton, ' Iowa, by building and equipping a factory. This announcement comes after several months of careful planning : and investigating, not only conditi- , ons in the present factory, but out- side market conditions as well. Mr. 1 Maytag reports that in the face of : the present shortage of machines and I the rate at which the sales organiza- .: (tion is developing, it would be unwise ' to delay any longer or to consider a smaller addition than this to pres- ; ent imanupfaoturing facSitieps. The : entire output of the plant is concen- i trated on the manufacture of the Maytag Grayfoam washing machine : which is. easily, distinguished from any other machines by having a cast . aluminum tub. , Mr. Maytag further states that the . Maytag sales organization foaS ithe I past thirty days has been selling on j an average of twohundred machines a day more than the present plant is producing. The new addition will be eighty-four feet wide by two hundred feet long and will be six stories high. The construction will be of re-inforced concrete throughout, through-out, well lighted and wel equipped in every feature. The total floor space of the new building will exceed ex-ceed a hundred thousand square feet which brings the total factory floor space up to over half a million square feet or j approximately twelve and a half acres. Active preparations for the beginning of the building will be started immediately and it is hoped hop-ed that it will be possible to occupy all or at least a part of the new addition by the latter part of October. Oc-tober. The new addition will necessitate the employment of approximately eight hundred more men. Over twelve hundred men are now employed. For the past three years, the Maytag May-tag company has held the position of the World's leadership in the manufacture man-ufacture bS .washing (machines, in : spite of the fact that there are over a hundred other companies making washers. They make approximately one-third of all the electric washers ' sold. The Maytag company was founded over a third ' of a century ago by Mr. Maytag, who is actively directing direct-ing the organization and has associated asso-ciated with him, his two sons, Lewis B. Maytag, President and E. H. Maytag, May-tag, Secretary and treasurer. |
