One of the new features to be added to the mill will be a block salt press, used for making sulphurated block salt, used extensively exten-sively for stock of. all kinds. This part of the plant will entail a big cost. The plant at Redmond, which it is announced will soon start on a big-scale, big-scale, will be used to manufacture and supply the western markets, and likely some of the products will find its way to the east. The property just changing hands is one of the oldest salt producers in the west. It was discovered in 1S55 by some of the early settlers, and was taken over by the Gunnison Valley Salt company some twenty-five years ago. Operations toward developing the salt mines was started in 1909 and in 1911 the big reducing mill east of Redmond was erected. Since operations opera-tions started thousands of tons of high grade salt have found their way to the markets annually, the product being sent out in lump rock salt and the famous brand the Red Star sheep salt. Mr. Parker, who has served as president for his company since its organization, and who is known as the salt king of Southern Utah, has devoted his time and efforts ef-forts and has successfully created a big industry for this section. There are unknown quantities in the mines just a few miles northeast of town. The holdings comprise some 180 acres and diamond drill tests show the salt bed averaging close to 150 feet in thickness. The mill has a capacity of grinding about 40,000 pounds daily. Mr. Parker, in retiring from the active duties of superintending the mill and mine operations, has made a fine record and only through his attention at-tention has the salt business in this section reached the point it has. With Mrs. Parker he is removing to Salina and he announces that he will make this city his home. The home and offices at Redmond will be leased to Mr. Wright, who will succeed Mr. Parker in the managerial offices. Salina Sun. |
