Show PROTECTION FOR THE AMERICAN FARMERS While the primary need of Agriculture Agri-culture is adequate. Tariff Protection, Protec-tion, commensurate with the Protection Protec-tion afforded other lines of idustry, there are other forms of relief which are very essential. We have long felt that the costs of distribution such as transportation, the intrusion and the greed of too many middle men, and even the downright dishonesty of many of them, need the most careful care-ful and intelligent consideration. What calls the subject at the present pres-ent time is the breif filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission by Dr. T. C. Atkeson, the Washington representative of the National Grange, Gran-ge, from' which we glean some important im-portant information. We will not discuss the matter to any great length, len-gth, but we feel that the conditions he points out need careful consideration. consider-ation. "Agricultural products carried on the railroads pay $3.49 per ton for transportation, increased for animal products to $4.97 per ton, while manufactured man-ufactured products pay but $2.50 per ton.
