Show Saving a Life Melba Miller, age three, of Letts. Ind., found a baby bird. She took It into the house and said: "Mother, may I keep him as a pet?" With mother's consent, she carried It around a while, and said to her: "Do you think it will die?" "I expect so," mother replied. Melba stepped out in the yard. She returned a moment later without the bird. "Where's your bird?" asked mother. "I gave him to the cat." "Why?" "I was afraid It would die," solemnly sol-emnly answered the. child.
