Show "drizzling FA':N FELL OVER SHOW NORTH SALT LAKE RECEIVES ONLY LIGHT DOSE OF MARCH DISTEMPER Judging of Entries Begun on Monday; Exhibits of High Standard; A Fair Crowd Visited the Show All Day Monday Salt Lake City. No matter how dry or damp It may have been the weeks previous, there always comes rain or snow or an atmospheric demonstration I of some kind during the intermountain I livestock show. With nothing much else on the program Sunday, it being a day of rest, the show management decided it advisable to get the ninth annual intermountain show's rain out of the way, perhaps to leave the calendar cal-endar clear and settle the dust for the remainder of the show. In this the show had the cooperation of J. Cecil Alter, who observed Saturday that it might rain Sunday. It should be recorded, however, for purpose of history, that the weather prognosticator is improving in his attitude at-titude toward the stock show. Instead In-stead of centering the worst of his storm on the Bhow grounds, as he did last year and the year before that, he gave it the mildest. While it was snowing in Salt Lake Sunday, it was . only raining slightly at the show grounds at North Salt Lake. When the storm tapered off to rain " and drizzle in the city, it was sunny and bright where the livestock is on display. dis-play. All day Sunday persons visited the show grounds. In the afternoon the army officers who do the fancy riding daily exercised their mounts for a short while. This alone brought out a fair crowd. Judging of entries in all classes was resumed Monday. In view of the extremely ex-tremely large classes and the quality of finish, it is doubtful if all pudges will be able to finish in the one day. How the quality of this year's show excels that of other exhibitions is told by J. H. Manderfield, manager. He said: "At the last minute several carloads of entries for the carload lot of fat cattle came in. Their owners seeing the competition they would have to face, decided not to enter, but to consign con-sign their stock to the packers forthwith. forth-with. We are able to show visitors at this year's show what fat cattle really are like." Monday is listed as Murray and Tooele county day. Murray high school was represented at the show by its agricultural club and Tooele county sent a delegation to Salt Lake i to see the entry of the Grantsville pure-bred Hampshire Sheep club, entered en-tered in the boys' and girls' division. Two' meetings of livestock men alsc were held on Monday., Members oi the Utah State Holstein-Friesian association as-sociation met at noon at the stockyards stock-yards to elect officers for the year and to discuss important problems in- the dairy business. R. E. Everley oi Portland, northwest field representative representa-tive of the Holstein-Friesian association associa-tion of America, is in Salt Lake to attend at-tend the meeting of the Utah breeders |
