Show Fayette Pioneer Dies Suddenly James Allen Hill, a native of Utah and a pioneer of the Gunnison Valley, died suddenly at his home in this city at about seven thirty Tuesday Tues-day morning. Mr. Hill was up and about his home and had eaten his' breakfast. He walked to the gate in front of his house, later returning and taking a seat on a chair on the porch and instantly he was stricken and died before medical aid could be summoned. Mr. Hill returned to his home Thursday of last week after having spent several weeks doing some development work on mining claims in Emigration canyon, east of Salt Lake. While at work at the claims he was stiricken and later taken to the home of his son, Roy Hill at Salt Lake. Later he was brought to Gunnison and was apparently appar-ently improving. Tuesday morning, however, the. final blow came and he passed to the great unknown. Jim Hill, as he was. familiarly known, was widely known throughout through-out Utah. He was bom at Ogden, February 8, 1852. When a young man he came It this valley and has resided here most of the tim& In the eawly days he engaged in the sheep raising business and at one time had the distinction of being the largest flockmaster in the1 county. Later he engaged in the mining business. He and a brother were the first locators of the famous Annie Laurie and Silver Sil-ver Cave mines in Piute county. The Annie Laurie,' which was purchased by the Kimberly interests, produced several millions of dollars. Kimberly, Kimber-ly, however bought the property from the Hill brothers for $300. Mr. Hill was an ardent members of the L. D. S. Church, and notwithstanding notwith-standing his many duities which called call-ed Mm to the mountains he was always al-ways faithful, kind and generous. He did a great deal of temple work in his younger days. Everybody in the southern section knew Uncle Jim and he made and held friends as no others could. In 1873 Mr. Hill was married to Clara Mellor and to the union twelve 'chldren wave born, nine of whom are living. The children are Mrs. Rhoda Jasckson of Ephraim; R. R. Hill, G. A. Hill, Mrs. Pearl Hill and Ewell Hill of Fayette; C. E. Hill of Rosse-velt; Rosse-velt; Roy Hill of Salt Lake; Mrs. Leah Williams of Milford, and Lorin Hill of Gunnison. Funeral services will be held from the Fayette meeting house Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the remains re-mains will be placed beside those of j his first wife. |
