Show Westview Road is To be Improved County roads throughout South Sanpete County are to receive more attention hereafter and the highways which are important for the transportation trans-portation of crops from the farms are to be maintained. This was the decree of the members of the county commissioners at the regular monthly meeting Tuesday, when a delegation comprising E. L. Swalberg, J. W. Jones and D. H. Whittenburg from this city visited the members with a request for the betterment of conditions con-ditions in the county roads. Charlie Larson, county road agent, though not present was taken "over the coals" and it was strongly intimated inti-mated that if he was unable to care for the roads in the south end of the county that another man would be put in his place. It was stated by members of the board that Larson had been told 'to keep track of the roads south of Sterling and that thus far all orders had been side-stepped. The county commissioners, accepting accept-ing the proposed 50-50 scheme offered offer-ed by the Gunnison Valley Sugar company, will at once set the wheels in motion to have the Westview road put in substantial shape. The plan is for the county to provide half of the funds and the sugar company the other half and ask those living on the westside to cooperate by contributing contrib-uting labor as cheaply as possible. Commissioner Dyreng and County Engineer Bench are expected to be in Gunnison Friday at which time a survey will be made and an estimated cost determined. The grade at Rocky Point will be reduced and a portion of the highest point blown down with powder. The road west will be graded grad-ed and put in shape to withstand the heavy hauling that comes with the harvest of beets. Gunnison City will also cooperate and it is announced that council members will favor grading the road to the west city limits. Work will start as soon as the surveys and estimates are completed with a view to getting the road completed before real work begins on the farms. A delegation of Fayette citizens was also before the county board Tuesday, making another plea for county road improvements. A. M. Mellor, C. H. Pickett and others, asked ask-ed consideration for better roads along the main county road and also the roads leading to the west fields. It was shown that several accidents had happened on tho roac between Gunnison and Fayette and realizing the liability of the county an order was made for the road agent to make necessary repairs where there was real danger. |
