ANDREW MODEKN I The first real cannon for the com-i com-i ing November city election was l fired last Friday evening when the Good' Government party named a j strong ticket to be submitted to lii : citizens of Gunnison. The piiinavy j was inai ked with harmony and th j goodly number of voters piesenl dc-i dc-i liberated conserva' ievly and the re- suit was tlii! naming of good, conservative con-servative men, all of whom an; ; strong supporters for a thoroughly progressive city. Ira Overfelt, a member of the city i council for the past four years, was 1 placed before the primary for office ; of mayor. Attorney C. M. Edwards, in placing Mr. Overfelt as the can-j can-j didate, paid a glowing tribute to I qualifications, ability and integri y ! of the candidate. Anthony Mar'-v,! named J. A. Tuft, also a member r.f i the present council as a candidal.: ! for the office. These were the on'y nominees and in the contest Ovsr-i Ovsr-i felt won out by a close margin, j Clifford II. Childs, who has reived reiv-ed the city so faithfully and efficiently effici-ently for the past several years, war, nominated by acclamation for the office of city recorder. The same honor was also given ?ilrs. Ellen llof-heins llof-heins as city treasurer. Mrs. Ilof-heins Ilof-heins was elected to the office of ; treasurer four years ago and sue-I sue-I ceeded herself two yeais ago. For the four year term as city councilman, J. A. Tuft was viciori-j viciori-j ous. When his name was mentioned i it met with the approval of those at the primary and satisfied with the ability of Mr. Tuft, his nomination ' was made unanimous, i In the selection of the three 2- year councilmen, three splendid men were named. Clarence Madsen, Andrew An-drew Modeen and N. L. Hermnnsen were the candidates chosen. AH of the candidates are well and favorably known in Gunnison and all are known for their conservative 'and progres-' progres-' sive business tactics. |
