Show Petitioners Ask Sunday Closing A petition, having 289 signatures, asking that the mayor and city council coun-cil pass an ordinance prohibiting Sunday Sun-day night picture shows and Sunday baseball, for hire, or amusements of any kind, was presented to the city council for consideration at the regular reg-ular meeting last Saturday evening. The text of the heading of the petition peti-tion is herewith given in full: "Gunnison, Utah, June 12, 1920. "To the Honorable City Mayor and City Council. "Gentlemen We. the undersigned, residents and voters of Gunnison City, hereby petition for the enactment and enforcement of an ordinance prohibiting prohibit-ing picture shows, baseball, or other exhibitions for hire, or amusement of ny kind, on Sunday, and we respectfully respect-fully request that (he mayor and city ounc.il of Gunnison City do not givc permission for the carrying on of any of the amusements or exhibitions above mentioned, or of a similar nature na-ture on Sunday." After the matter had been gone Into Counncilmen Overtoil and Sor-onson Sor-onson were appointed a committee of two to go over the list of signers and chock the qualified voters. The report re-port of the committee will be made at. the next regular meeting, at which lime another petition asking for the Sunday privileges will bo presented j to the council. |
