Show Reach Agreement On Transportation At a conference which was attended attend-ed by representative? of the beet growers on the west side and sugar factory official:;, held at the factory offices last Tuesday night, an agreement agree-ment was leached which, it is believed, be-lieved, will result in a greatly increased in-creased beet tonnage for the local factory. The proposition of siloing I beets was widely discussed and after af-ter the matter had been discussed from every angle the committee representing the growers, accepted the proposition. The committee representing rep-resenting the growers were C. II. Childs, Joseph Christensen and Lafe Frandsen. V. Harvey Ross, president presi-dent of the Gunnson Valley Sug:i. company, and E. L. Swalborg, field man, were in conference with the westside representatives. Under the agreement reached the beet growers are to harvest their beet crops and puti them in jsilo, awaiting the time for delivery at th2 judgment of the factory officials. The grower is to make delivery of the beets and for this, providing the required acreage is planted, the company com-pany will pay at the rate of SI per ton for delivery. If the acreage falls below a certain point, then the growers grow-ers will receive only 75 cents per ton for the delivery. In previous years the sugar company com-pany has deducted 40 cents per ton as a transportation charge, and with the new plan, and providing the. requirements re-quirements are met, the grower will not only save the 40 cents per ton, but will be paid liberally for delivering deliver-ing his beets. It is believed that the arrangement will prove highly satisfactory to ail, and especially to the grower. Ordinarily, Or-dinarily, at harvest time, the grower grow-er is busy in getting his beets out and for this reason matters will be greatly facilitated if the crop is cor -pletely harvested before hauling 1. .-gins. .-gins. Siloing will give the beets protection pro-tection from freezing and the shrinkage shrink-age it is shown, will not be nearly so heavy, were the beets aFbwM to lay uncovered for a few day Wjth the new contract it is stated that the growers at the inland stations sta-tions will make a saving of approximately approx-imately $14,000 by reason of transporting trans-porting ilhe beets to the factoivy themselves. Expression already made by a number of the growers who haul to the inland piles, indicates that more than 1,000 acres will be planted this season. |
