Show Legioneers Make Membership Drive At a regular meeting of Gunnison Guard Mount, Post 104, Aerican Legion, Le-gion, held last Monday evening, concrete con-crete plans were mapped for a membership mem-bership drive to be waged by the local lo-cal order. While but few members were present at the meeting, much enthusiasm was manifest, and it is believed that at the close of the drive the membership will have been increased in-creased to more than double that at tho present time. According to the plans arranged, each member will be asked to get two new recruits. In the event he gets none hoe will be fined $1. Should only one member be secured the fine will be 50 cents. If the two members mem-bers are secured the solicitor will be accorded the unanimous praise of the members of the order. The drive is on now and will conclude con-clude on Washington's birthday, at which time a dance and reception will be planned. Several other matters of importance impor-tance were discussed and a communication commu-nication from B. W. Black, department depart-ment commander, was read. The letter let-ter from the state official sounds the keynote of the Legion's activities for 1922, and is in part as follows: "To see that every ex-service man and woman in the United States is properly taken care of to get them hospitalization, vocational training, compensation, everything they have coming from the government. "To get the name and address of every veteran, especially those who are disabled, unemployed, who need any assistance, we can offer and then to see that they get it. "To explain what the American Legion is trying to do for them and for the country, and to enroll them as members that we may have added strength and prestige to aid us to win our battles for them. "To build up posts and show our communities that we mean service, that we stand by our buddies. "With these objectives your department de-partment is being asked to organize in a great service and adjusted compensation com-pensation campaign which is going to require a few hours' work from every . Legionaire which if carried cut effectively is going to result in great upbuilding of the Legion, in putting such power behind us that we can accomplish those things to which the Legion has pledged itself. "After all, it's being of service to our buddies that makes this legion worth while. We can build up the machinery, but it's YOU, old man, who's got to put this thing across unless you're with us, she's no good. We're betting on you. We're with and for you." |
