Show Wrote Under Death's Shadow. The story of H. F. Lyte, the author of "Abide With Me, Fast Falls the Eventide," is unusually moving. The line, "When other helpers fall and comforts flee," is significant in an understanding un-derstanding of his famous hymn, for Lyte had all the helpers and comforts that a fortunate life could give. But lie was found to be suffering from an incurable disease, and his helps and comforts failed him. No specialist could do anything for him, and he wrote this hymn under sentence of death. |
