Show Statement of Correction (Written by C. O. Stott, county , agricultural agent Figures checked; i by county clerk and chairman of! Hoard of County Commissioners.) ' In the financial report of Sanpete county for the year ending June 30, 1921, the following figures appeared ' on the second page: Expenditures Crop Test Inspector $1846.73 i County Agricultural Agent.. 1756.77 j Co. Agr'l Agent contingent ! Expenses 3080.27 ! The idea has been spread that the I total of $6,683.77 has been squandered squan-dered by the county agent. However the books show that $1,846.73 was i the salary and expense of the coun-; coun-; ty crops and pests inspector, J. C. Snow. On the face of the report Bome people read it this way, the $1756.77 is the county agent's salary and the I $:I0S0.27 is his expense budget. The ! facts show that the county agent did I not spend a cent of the $3,080.27 tor personal gain, as the itemized statement state-ment given below will show. In this report the month of June, 19 20, was included and my expenses that month were $128.30, and the month of June, 1921, was not figured fig-ured in, and my expenses allowed Hits month were $61.23. So figur-! figur-! ing the fiscal year as it should be from July 1, 1920. to June 30, 1921, it would show a reduction of the difference) dif-ference) between $128.30 and $61.23. So figuring the fiscal year as it should be from July 1, 1920, to June 3(T, 1921, it would show a reduction of the difference between $128.30 and $61.23 or $67.07 from the $1,756.77 given in the financial report, leaving $1,689.70. Then $52.42 for slate fair exhibit was charged to my budget, bud-get, and it shouldn't have been; deducting de-ducting this item from the remain'' ing $1689.70, shows that I actually used for office and field expenses and $25 per month payment on salary,. a total of $1637.28. The itemized statement of the $3080.27, plus the $52.42 deducted from my budget, which must necessarily neces-sarily be added to this so-called contingent con-tingent expenses of mine to make the books balance, or a total in this account of $3132.69, is as follows,: ' Strichnine for poisoning " pests $ 1342.32 ', Loaned to County Farm i Bureau to buy oats 19S.2a! Photographic maps for ro- j dent campaign 67.65 i Wales Farm Bureau to help S fight grasshoppers 186.10 Chester Farm Bureau to help fight grasshoppers.. 186.10 j Manti Farm Bureau to help fight grasshoppers 305.39 Ephraim Farm Bureau to j help fight grasshoppers ... 247.85 Ft. Green Farm Bureau to help fight grasshoppers.... 175.55 County exhibit at state fair 556.42 Total $3132.69 Out of the loan of $198.25 to the Farm Bureau $95 has been paid) back, and the remaining $103.25 will be paid back with interest in ! the very near future. j The following figures will show ! the results of the poisoning cam-j paigns for which this money was ex-1 pended: I There were 14,17 6 sparrows re-1 ported poisoned. There were 14,117 acres of ground poisoned for ground squirrels. There were 7,608 pounds of poisoned poi-soned bait used. There " were 3,550 rabbits poisoned. poi-soned. ' There was $14,161 estimated savings sav-ings to crops as a result of the poisoning poi-soning campaign for rodents. ' Grasshoppers . There was 58,650 lbs. of poison bran mash used. There was 11,466 acres of land treated with the bran mash. There was an estimated saving of $158,706 of crops as a result of the hopper poisoning. ' .These savings were figured from conservative estimates of hundreds of farmers in various parts of the county. It is sincerly hoped that the above statements of facts will set the public pub-lic right about this very expensive county agent they jha've in their midst. I shall be very glad to go Into the above figures further and in more detail with anyone who is not now satisfied. ;. (Signed) C. O. STOTT, County Agricultural Agent. |
