Show Mayfield Pioneer Answers Call J. C. Nielson, one of the pioneers of Mayfield and highly respected and well known throughout the southern part of the state, passed away at the county infirmary in Salt Lake county coun-ty on Tuesday of last week. The body was taken to Mayfield and last Sunday impressive funeral services were held for the deceased. Mr. Nielson was born in Denmark, and when a boy came to this valley and was the first settler in what is known as the South Side at Mayfield. He served in the Black Hawk war and only, a few weeks before his demise de-mise received a pension from the government for his services. He was 72 years of age at the time of his death. Some fifteen years ago Mr Nielson lost his eye sight and was taken to Salt Lake tor treatment, and later he was placed in the infirmary, in-firmary, where he remained until the time of his death. Impressive services were held at the meeting house at Mayfield last Sunday afternoon. Parley Christiansen, Chris-tiansen, a long-time friend of the deceased, was the principal speaker. He was assisted in the services by Clyde Whitlock and S. E. Anderson. The deceased is survived by four living daughters and one son, all of whom were present at the services. |
