Show Scouts To Make Membership Drive The Gunnison Boy Scouts, in keeping with the activities of other organizations of the same character throughout the United States, are coming to the front and the order here, under the leadership of Scout Master Roy Madsen, is gaining in membership. However, there are many young fellows between the ages of 12 and 18 years, who have not as yet affiliated with the Gunnison organization, or-ganization, and a drive is soon, to be made to enroll more new ones in order or-der to put the local order on the highest plane. Several sound and logical reasons are advanced for those not belonging, belong-ing, to become members of the Gunnison Gun-nison Scouts. Among the interesting interest-ing features that afford entertainment entertain-ment is a weekly meeting at which the boys have lessons in things worth while; an occasional hike and camping out, and many other modes of entertainment that will tend to uplift and start the youngsters on the right road. It is being planned to take a week's outing during both July and August in Twelve Mile canyon. This plane alone should je an incentive for those not now )elonging to at once become members. mem-bers. A boys' ball team has been organized, or-ganized, and plans are being made to play with teams from other towns. iVnd then there are certain civic duties, du-ties, training in good book reading and the general idea to train the boys for clean habits, better health and greater civic pride and responsibility. responsi-bility. It is planned to supply each member mem-ber with a scout suit and to this 3nd dances will be given at intervals. inter-vals. With a view to enlisting all of the Hgibles in Gunnison for membership, member-ship, the tenderfoot examination for new members to become full fledged ;couts will be held June 15. Working teams are now out and it is thought the membership for the Gunnison organization will be materially ma-terially increased in the drive. |
