I was visiting friends with whom I was not well acquainted, writes a correspondent cor-respondent of the Chicago Tribune. They Insisted upon my staying overnight. over-night. I nnd an important engagement engage-ment for the following evening and wanted to look my best, so I really was anxious to get away; but upon thinking It over I finally consented to stay. That being fettled, we went down town to pass the evening, and while two of the girls were in the middle of what ought to have been an interesting interest-ing conversation to me I, thinking of all I had to do befue the following evening and not havi. g concentrated on what they were saying, blurted out: "What time does the iirst train leave In the morn.iigV" They both looked at me In great surprise, naturally thinking I was extremely ex-tremely anxious to get away from the town and tliem, too. In view of our -holt acquaintance, words failed me. and try as I would I could not make them understand. |
