Mr. Brow?i and Mr. Metzgar were on the coast for the purpose of making1 a study of the conditions of production and marketing mar-keting of eggs and poultry, and their visit proved highly instructive and profitable. Not only did these gentle-men lea.m much about the method of raising and marketing, but they gained much from the offices of the farm bureau of that Miction. Through the courtesy of tho farm bureau officials Messrs. lirown and Metzgar w.;re told how to make the best selection of hatcheries from which to buy baby chicks. "In a district extending but twe.-ty twe.-ty miles in length and from two .o three miles in width, there are over f,000,00 producing chicken," said Mr. Brown to the News man yesterday. yester-day. "These figures were given by th: officers of the poultry associations at I'etaluma and it is reported tha:. about $18,000,000 worth of poultry was sold during the year 1922. Several Sever-al cf the poultry men of the district run flocks as high 35,000 and the average av-erage profit earned by the owners of those flocks ranged from $1 to S2 per head. These profits were made possible pos-sible only as a result of cooperation and standardizing the quality of eggs in the locality, thereby enabling them to command a premium from the large markets for their products. We also learned that the production of eggs is a specialty which only the most careful in that line of work can carry on successfully and realize any profit." Since the return of Manger Brown from the coast officials of the Utah State Farm bureau have called him into conference with reference to effecting ef-fecting a state wide poultry organization organiza-tion for Utah. The result of the conference con-ference was that subsequent meeting were arranged for the last of this week at Provo, American Fork and Salt Lake City. A prominent egg dealer of Los Angeles An-geles and who has a national reputation reputa-tion for large outputs of poultry products, pro-ducts, visited the local exchange the early part of this week.
