Show CLUB BOY WOW CHAMPIONSHIP Norman Walker of Sloan, la., Is Winner at Sioux City Fair With His Fat Steer. This club boy won the championship in the Shorthorn fat classes at the recent re-cent interstate fair at Sioux City in competition with over forty head, among them being very prominent shorthorn breeders. This thirteen-year-old lad is Norman Walker of Sloan, la., and he has been doing club work only one year. His steer, Buster Bus-ter Brown, is a purebred, fourteen months old. He was fed 200 days, his' initial weight being 410 pounds, final weight 1,025 pounds, gaining Glf) pounds with an average daily gain of S&P&i 111 nt''S Nonr.an Walker and His Shorthorn Steer. 2.33 pounds. The average cost pei pound of gain was .077, the initial cost of the steer was S28.70 and the total cost, including feed and labor, $70.42. Norman attributes his success first to selecting a well-bred steer, and second to bis careful feeding. The feed consisted of ground corn, oats, barley, alfalfa, oil meal with a little brown sugar for dessert to whet Bus- ! ter's appetite. |
