Show GUNNISON CELEBRATES Gunnison celebrated Independence day in a fitting manner, and while the program was not so extensive as in past years, young America had a good time. Through the presence of the chautauqua in the city the program that had been announced was cut out for some reason and great disappointment followed. At sunrise a salute was fired and following follow-ing this the city band gave a sunrise sun-rise serenade, giving the signal that the festivities were to start. In the absence of the program in the morning morn-ing the time was spent in sightseeing and watching the "kiddies" disport themselves in showing how to celebrate. cele-brate. Cap pistols, snappers and other oth-er harmless devices for noisemaking were employed, and the young folks enjoyed a good time. In the afternoon after-noon the festivities opened with a children's dance at Peterson hall. Then came the sports of races, etc. The ball game between Salina and Gunniseon drew a big crowd and proved a big and interesting event. The day, as a rule, was highly enjoyed en-joyed and many visitors from outside points were here. |
