Show Manti Joyriders Cause Auto Wreck Milton Cox and Audrey Winch, two youths from Manti, will be careful care-ful in the future about two things. They will use better judgment ;in driving their car and they will be more careful in handling that article which Mr. Volstead makes so much fuss about. This latter is responsible, respons-ible, so the story goes for the grief that befell the young men last Sunday Sun-day evening. The young men had been for a ride and some declare, for a drink of the juice that "cheers." They were passing through Gunnison Sunday evening and the car gave evidence of an unsteady hand at the wheel. In fact this proved absolutely true for when they attempted to pass the car driven by Bert Willard-son Willard-son n collision followed. Heedless ot the harm they might have done tin "joyriders" stepped on the gas and were making tracks for their home town. And then the race was on. Mr. Willardson, dissatisfied with the apology the boys offered by hurrying hurry-ing away, attempted to follow. lie reached the outskirts of Gunnison and then was forced to abandon his car. Securing another he got the trail of the speedsters and traced them to Manti. They were finally located by the officers and after being be-ing pressed for and explanation they admitted that they had "imbibed too freely" and were careless about their driving. The first of this week Cox and Winch were hailed before the justice court at Manti and after pleading guilty to drunkeness were assessed S50 each. The Willardson car suffered broken brok-en and damaged fenders and that serious results did not follow is a mighty good fortune. |
