Show Farmers Hold , Rousing Meeting That the farmers of Gunnison are "coining into their own," was evidenced evi-denced at the mais meeting which was held at the City hall Thursday evening of last week. Not in the history of the city was there so much enthusiasm and the one hundred and twelve farmers thai were present were highly gratified at the representation represen-tation and the enthusiasm shown. President Beal of the County Farm Bureau and who is also vice president of the state organization, was present and added much enthusiasm enthusi-asm by his.address ' Mr. Beal. dwelt at length on the main advantages of the organization and urged, with emphasis, that the local fanners become be-come active in their co-operation for the betterment of agricultural conditions. con-ditions. The sugar beet contract for the present year was" discussed and it was unanimously decided that (he farmers accept the fientative contract con-tract as planned by the Slate Farm Bureau, 'on the 60-50 basis with the local factory. C. O. Stott, county agent, also gave an address on the work of the farm bureau and added that shortly short-ly fully 1,000 farmers would be enrolled en-rolled as members of the county organization. or-ganization. Mr. Stott outlined some of the work on the projects selected in this locality, among which will be rodents, weeds and weevil control. A campaign against the sparrow is to be launched again this spring. Messrs. Funk and Hickenlooper. members of the Centerfield bureau', also spoke to the farmers assembled, the latter telling of the work that was done at the state convention along irrigation and drainage matters, mat-ters, i Some of the accomplishments of the State Farm Bureau during the past year was the securing of the $12 beet contract for the farmers, the selling of products co-operatively, the buying of coal, corn, oats, etc., at a considerable reduction, making a big saving tothe farmers of the state, the control of certain pests, and numerous other features. Since the Thursday meeting a. vigorous vig-orous campaign has been waged in the city for membership.
