Land Commissioner William Spry of Utah and 10. I Blaine of Seattle, representing the 'Western Stales Reclamation association, the foundation was laid for legislation providing a broad ;ind comprehensive plan of national reclamation of arid lands. At this conference, Senator Mc-Nury Mc-Nury of Oregon, chairman of the reclamation rec-lamation committee of the senate, laid before his colleagues the tentative draft of the proposed legislation. He stated that the bill was a compromise and a composite of a number of other hills and called for opinion of the senators. sen-ators. Senator Snioot of Utah opened the discussion by arguing the importance of holding the legislation to irrigation reclamation. An outstanding feature of the conference con-ference was the unanimous enthusiasm expressed by every senator present in llie prospects of securing irrigation legislation carrying an appropriation of ?250,000,000. In fact, the senators seemed to take the view that it would be comparatively easy to secure the passage of such legislation. |
