Show COXSTRVCTIVE NATIONAL REFORESTRATION. A national reforestration policy, backed by the press and all our educational edu-cational machinery, has become an indispensable necessity. Our original forests covering 822 million acres containing 5,200 billion ... board feet of lumber, are over two- thirds culled, cut over or burned. We have 137 million acres virgin forest, 112 million acres second growth, 133 million acres partially stocked, and 81 million acres forest lands of all sorts. We are cutting 5 6 billion board feet annually. We are taking 2 6 billion cubic feet out of our forests annually and restoring only six billion feet annually. an-nually. Our annual wood bill is 40 billion feet of lumber, 87 million feet hewed i railroad ties, 7 million cords paper pulp wood. j There must be reforestration on a : national scale to supply the raw ma-; terial of lumber production and paper i manufacture unless we are to become j forestless. j State and forest forestry depart-; ments, the sawmill and lumber manufacturing manu-facturing interests and private own- ers of forests and logged off lands j must unite to save the day.
