Show South Going After Tourist Travel Determined that the traveling tourists, which will be numbered by thousands during the coming summer, sum-mer, will be able to route over a v- highway that will carry them to Utah's secnic gardens of the south, more than 100 boosters from southern south-ern and central Utah met at Frovo' last Tuesday and effected an organization, organ-ization, the object of which will be to help put Southern Utah on the travel map. The Utah Scenic Highway High-way association was organized at the meeting with E. S. Hinckley of Provo, as president. Dr. Reece of Nephi was named as vice-president and F. D. B. Gay of Provo was chosen chos-en as secretary-treasurer. A board of directors will be chosen later and Utah county, Juab, Sanpete, Sevier, Piute, Garfield, Millard, Washington, Kane, Wayne and Beaver counties will be represented on the board. The naming of the board was left to the several counties. Mayor J. W. Jones, R. C. Norman, R. J. Parr, Julius Dugins and Reuben Christensen, representing Gunnison and South Sanpete county, attended the meeting and all are hgh in their praise of the results thus far obtained ob-tained and the great benefits that are sure to follow. The prime object of the meeting was for the purpose of inviting the Lincoln Highway to route its course south of Salt Lake, thus giving the tourists an opportunity of seeing the wonders which the state has to offer. Much opposition was shown the idea of sending all travelers over the Nevada Ne-vada deserts. A preference offer will be made to the Lincoln highway officials for two right-of-ways to Nephi and Salt Creek and through and Sevier counties and south, or on the Nephi-Fillmore road, known locally lo-cally as the Arrowhead trail. The local delegations, together with those from Sevier, Piute and other counties coun-ties south, strongly impressed those at the meeting that the Sanpete-Sevier route was the most logical. Not only does this route run through thickly settled farming communities, beautiful towns and hamlets, with first-class accomodations at short intervals, in-tervals, but it will give a direct route to Fish Lake, Bryces Canyon, Sevier Sevi-er canyon, Grand Canyon and other scenic attractions which only Southern South-ern Utah has to offer. High hopes are held for some favorable fav-orable action on the part of the Lincoln Lin-coln highway officials and it is believed be-lieved that when the board of directors direct-ors is named and the Utah Scenic Highway association is functioning, that big results will follow in bringing bring-ing tourist travel through Sanpete, Sevier and counties south. The delegation attending the Pro-vo Pro-vo meeting are loud in .their praise for the hospitality extended by the Chamber of Commerce of Provo. The entire bunch of boosters from the south were tendered a swell dinner by the members of the civic organization. |
