Show Local Woolmen Sell At Record Price The value of the wool pool, which was inaugurated by the woolmen of Manti and Gunnison Valley sheepmen, sheep-men, was exemplified this week when approximately 80,000 pounds of wool was contracted by Hallowell, Jones and Donald of Boston, on a basis of 50 cents per pound, f. o. b. cars at loading points. The price received by the sellers, Wm, Metcalf & Sons, O. B. Berglund, : Claud Mickelson, ! Jas. Brown and Sylvester Pierce, all well known valley wool producers, is i the record price for any wool paid in the state this year. And compared compar-ed with the prices paid last year, it shows a healthy advance. Wool sold ' on the open market and before the i pool was formed last year, ranged 'in price from 33 cents to 35 cents. The -eastern concern was repi-e-i sented in the purchase ,of the wool by Horace Brown of Manti. The state representative for the eastern purchasers is Joe Kearns, well known in Utah and a former resident of Gunnison. In the .deal made this week a down payment of $1.00 per head, or for a single fleece of $1.00 was made to the sellers, and as a result some $80,-000 $80,-000 paid out in the Gunnison Valley. "The formation of the Manti Wool-mens Wool-mens pool, effected early in thi year, is proving a mighty big help to the wool producers of this section," said a well known sheepman yesterday, "and through this organization only was it possible to land the record-breaking record-breaking price for wool. Generally speaking the sheep did well considering consid-ering the extreme long winter. Had our winter been more open and had .there been less storms, the clip this season would have reached a high productive point. The fact, however, that those within the pool are receiving re-ceiving 50 cents for their wool, a ,high record mark since the war prices, pric-es, speaks volumes for the industry." |
