Show Pioneer Day Celebration To Be Held at Mayfield The stage, is practically set for a rousing Pioneer Day celebration celebra-tion and the big event is to be hold at Mayfield this year. Cooperating Cooper-ating with Mayfield will be the various wards throughout the Gunnison Gun-nison stake and elaborate plans are being mapped out to make the event a memorable one. The celebration is intended to commemorate com-memorate the landing of the pioneers in Utah and also for the purpose pur-pose of having a real ";et-acqu:intcd" meeting and an unusually large crowd is expected to join in the celebration. A gorgeous parade, in which will be floats representing the different phases of the journey of the pioneers across the plains and the pioneer life, Indians and other floats will be a feature. A sham battle will also be staged and it will icpresenl an attack of Black-hawk Black-hawk Indians on the pioneers.. A prize will be awarded for the best flaot and as each ward will compete it is certain that this feature fea-ture wil prove aninteresting one. Horse races, a children's dance, tugs-of-war, novelty races, auto races and dances will form the neucles for the day's entertainment. entertain-ment. Those having favorite horses with merit and desiring to enter the races are asked to notify the recreation committees of the various vari-ous wards that the proper entries and classifications can be made. Mayfield will be prepared to take ore of the big crowd and there will be refreshments of all kinds. At noon there will be a real old-fashioned basket picnic and all are asked to not forget the lunch. The citizens of Mayfield will throw open their lawns where an abundance of shade can be found for the picnickers. Following is the program that will be carried out during the day : 9:30 a. m. Following the festivities at Mayfield dances will be held at the Gunnison Valley high school, at the halls at Axtell and Fayette. |
