Creen, contractor con-tractor who laid the walks in district dis-trict No. 1, to make good the defective defect-ive walks to he found in many places throughout the city, as a result of inferior work. This was the decision reached at the city council meeting held last Friday evening. Correspondence Corres-pondence with the respective contractors con-tractors have availed but little and to get justice for the property owners own-ers who were assessed for the work, it is proposed to go the limit and if court action necessary it will be resorted to. A committee from the council during dur-ing the past week has gone over all the walks in the two districts and it is found that from 75 to 80 per cent of the walks are defective. Not only is the surface covering crumbling, crumb-ling, but in many places the concrete base is inferior and is rapidly de-teriorialing. de-teriorialing. For the past year and a half overtures over-tures have been made to the contractors con-tractors and the hopes were held out that they would make good the prom-j i.ses. Failing to do so the property owners have entered strong protests and have urged some action on the part of the members of the council I and to the end that the contractors j make good the poor work the city attorney has been instructed to start proceedings at once. Final notice is o be given the builders of the infer- j ior walks to make good. Failing to j comply with the requests of the city damage actions will be instituted at j once.' I |
