Show Will Hasten Work On Gravel Roads While no definite date can at this j time he set announcing the starting of the work on the Gunnison-Axtell county and government road project, it is believed that it will be some j time in the early part of Septembe-j Septembe-j This was the opinion of B. W. Ma -! teson, senior highway engineeer of the bureau of puDiic roaas, and E. C. Knowlton, assistant state road en- gineer. The committee on roads act j ing for the citizens and for the Gunnison Gun-nison Valley Development league, I meeting with the visitors was given j the assurance that everything possible pos-sible would be done to hasten the work in order that the roads would be put in condition for the coming winter. Messrs. Matteson and Knowdton were here several days this week making a review of the project. Compilation of the surveys, checking on the culverts, bridges and other necessary data were being gathered on the proposed road. With this work completed all data will be sent to headquarters at Salt Lake City for final inspection. "There is much routine work in outlining the project," said Mr. Knowleton. "It is first necessary to make the surveys. Then blue prints must follow and these are then submitted to the state road commission. commis-sion. When accepted by the state it is necessary to submit all plans ro the local bureau of federal roads for inspection. When the plans are finally final-ly completed and all data assembled it must go to Washington for final approval. The fact that many projects pro-jects are being handled in Utah and all are clamoring for early action is heaping work on the road forces, but it is reasonable to assume that the Gunnison-Axtell project will receive early action, and realizing the importance im-portance of your road wre will put forth an extra effort to put the proposition pro-position across at the earliest possible pos-sible moment." Messrs. Matteson and Knowlton were headed south and before returning re-turning will visit Cedar City and other points south where government govern-ment projects are being planned. |
