Show Gunnison Wins In Big Comedy "Omigosh," some one left the gate open and Hugh Halverson. just for meanness, made a line drive, and ihe little old pill just went through that open gate and kept rolling and roll-j roll-j ing and there were three men on I liases and "away went that little old I ball game." It was' in round eight ! of the league game between Manti and Gunnison on the Gunnison diamond dia-mond last Sunday, and at the end of the inning the boys from the local team were all "busted" for wind, and after the pyrotechnics exploded Gunnison Gun-nison had chalked ten runs. And it was the fussiest inning you ever saw. Every man on the Gunnison team made a run. Larson being credited with two tallies and Hugh Halverson a "homer." Only three safe hits were recorded, but the way some of the locals "pilfered" bases was a caution. cau-tion. Three errors on the part of Manti was largely responsible for the phenomenal number of runs. The score at the final of the game was 15 to 3, with the county seat boys holding hold-ing the short end. There were two comedies in the show. Manti, though young in the art of playing ball, displayed class, and only for a "bingle" in the center-field center-field and in the third inning the tale might have been different. A "muff" by Winslow, playing centerfield. raised the curtain for the first show, and in the performance. Gunnison slipped in five runs. The visitors tightened up and Gunnison was held down until their half of the eighth inning when a whole carload of fireworks fire-works exploded. In this comedy turn Gunnison started out swatting the ball, and every man on the team got. a crack at it. Only three safe hits were made, however, and Manti was only credited with three errors in tlir inning. But it was fun, and the three hundred fans from Gunnison, Manti. Centerfield, and all the surrounding towns were highly entertained. Manti .through errors on the part of Gunnison, slipped in two runs in the fourth inning and managed to get one more across in the fifth. Outside Out-side of these -three runs the county seaters failed to again connect with the home sack. Hugh Halverson and Lee Larson, two young colts in the team, displayed dis-played creditable talent in Sunday's game and both give high promise of lending much strength to the locals.. Frodrickson, the idol of Gunnison, gave another repetition of his steadiness steadi-ness as a player. The visitors only got six hits from him but. these were all scattering and his support was superior su-perior to any game played this season. sea-son. I |
