AN INCONSISTENT ATTITUDE ' The railroad shopmen's strike cannot can-not be settled because the seniority matter cannot be settled. The men who went out on a strike will not compromise unless they are given all the rights and privileges they had when the struck. The railroads on the other hand cannot compromise because . in advertising ad-vertising for men to take the place of the strikers they promised them permanent positions and are therefore there-fore both legally and morally bound to retain these men. Granting that the shopmen or other men had a right to quit work or strike, what right have they, after they have exercised this privilege, privil-ege, to demand that they be re-employed on their own terms, be given |
