Show THE SYNDICALIST TRIALS William Z. Foster, who led the abortive steel workers strike is on irial at .St. Josephs, Michigan, on a charge of "criminal syn dicalism." During the time of his leadership in the steel strike it ws denied that he held revolutionary views, though some of thei Jabor leaders admitted that he once held such views but had abandoned aban-doned them. Apparently he ha3 reverted to his former views, for the literature seized at the secret meeting in the woods at Michigan Michi-gan raided. by the government openly advises the proletariat to pro- ide themselves with rifles and overthrow the present government and substitute for it their own rule as was done in Russia. When the government agents made the raid the syndicalists got warning from their spies and they hid their incriminating literature in two barrels protected from moisture and buried in the sand dunes. They were found there later by the police and are now in evidence. Many straight-minded but too self-satisfied American citizens mile indulgently at this talk about the radical movement in America. Amer-ica. But it is a real movement. The result of these trials may show that there is a well-organized effort to undermine the ideas of the American workmen with the propaganda which brought about the downfall of Russia's industries- |
