Show EASILY BUNCOED We see in press dispatches out of New York an item which convinces us more than ever that those who live in the big towns are just as quick to fall for fake schemes or to buy gold-brick as tre ' those whom they smile at and call "hay-seeds." The dispatch says two fakers sold 1,000 ordinary English sparrows for German canaries. can-aries. In a few days the yellow dye, into which the birds had been dipped, began to rub off, and 1,000 "easy marks" found they had! paid $3 each for sparrows. When they went to demand their money back the bird dealers had moved on. It is of interest in two ways. In the first place it proves that New Yorkers are just as gullible as people living anywhere else; and in the second place it provesthat the only wise and sensible way to purchase anything is o do so from a dealer who you know personally, one you can easily ?et in touch with if your purchase isn't just what it was represented to be. |
