BEWARE OF SWINDLERS: Recently Re-cently a fact was called to attention that two men by the names of Miller and Sparn were selling poultry remedies re-medies under the name of the National Na-tional Poultry Association in Sanpete San-pete county. They made various unreasonable un-reasonable claims of the value of their remedies, they also claimed in some instances to be government men. They charged outrageous prices for their products and succeeded suc-ceeded in taking hundreds of dollars from our poultrymen before their j little scheme was detected. On hearing hear-ing of this the county agent immediately imme-diately wrote to the State Poultry Association giving them the information informa-tion and asking them to make investigation. in-vestigation. The following letter was received which is self-explanatory: . Salt Lake City, Utah, September, 6, 1923. Mr. C. 0. Stott, County Agricultural Agent, Manti, Utah. I am answering your letter in behalf be-half of Mr. Brown, and desire to express our appreciation of 'yur prompt action in notifying us of the activity of Miller and Sparn. It may interest you to know that our Mr. George A. Brown in connection connec-tion with some of the producers in Spanish Fork, had a warrant issued I for their arrest and they were at once taken into custody and later released on a cash bond. We made a careful investigation j before arrest was made and found that there was no National Poultry Association in Utah; that there was no Crescent Chemical company in the records of the city or state; that the factory at 124 South 12th East, this city, proved to be the residence of a man who professed to be a chemist and who mixed their concoctions for them at his home after his regular days work was done. Immediately after being released on their bond, these men apparently lushed into Salt Lake, engaged a lawyer, and immediately filed articles arti-cles of incorporation for the National Nation-al Poultry Assn., of Utah, with Miller Mill-er as president, and Sparn as vice-president. vice-president. You can readily see therefore there-fore that their letter of recommen dation from the National Poultry association as-sociation was a letter of self-recommendation, and they were working for none other than themselves. This information may be interesting interest-ing to you and I give it to you for what it is worth. With best wishes for your continued continu-ed success in Sanpete, I am, Very truly yours, CLYDE C. EDMONDS, Secretary Utah Poultry Producers, Pro-ducers, Inc. Poultrymen and other farmers of the county beware of such crooks in the future. Any man who claims to be a government man will not have anything any-thing to sell and he will not charge for his services. If he is a government govern-ment man he will come to you thi-ough the county agent's office. If you have any question about such activity ac-tivity you will be money ahead to pay a phone bill and inquire of the county agent relative to the activities of any suspicious characters.
