Show Pioneer Woman Is Called to Reward Elsie K. Christensen, beloved wife of L. M. C. Christensen, and well known throughout Gunnison Valley and the entire county, passed to the great beyond at her home in Manti last Monday night at 12 o'clock. Death folohved a three-day serious illness and notwithstanding the fact that she was very ill she was conscious con-scious and realized that the end was near and bade those about her farewell. fare-well. The husband, and Joseph and Albert, sons and a daughter, Mrs. Chas. Peterson anj Mr. Peterson were at the bedside when the end came. Mrs. Christensen just recently returned re-turned from an extended visit to some of her children in the northern part of the state and at Wyoming, where she spent six weeks and on her return she was well and in splendid splen-did spirits. The deceased was born in Denmark, Den-mark, February 9, 1S47, and had she lived until the coming February would have been 77 years old. When IS years old she joined the L. D. S church and later emigrated to America, Am-erica, settling first at Manti. After a residence there for a while she removed to Gunnison and resided here for more than thirty years. Some few years ago she returned to Manti and resided there until called to the other world. Mrs. Christensen was widely known and loved always. In the early days she was the only nurse in the entire valley. She had studied under Dr. Shipp, the well known practictioner of the early days of Utah history and through her charming and loving ways and her efficiency in administering administ-ering to the sick she was highly esteemed es-teemed and loved by all. In her religious belief she was de-voute. de-voute. For thirty years she was an ardent worker in the Relief society and did much charity work. She was also regarded as a very brilliant brilli-ant woman and before coming to America taught in the schools of her native land. Since here residence resi-dence at Manti she has devoted her time to temple work and her time was occupied both at Manti and Salt Lake. Besides the husband, L. M. C. Christensen, she is surved by Joseph and Arthur Christensen of this city, L. D. Christensen of Evanston, Wyo., and A. H. Christensen of Manti, and the daughters, Mrs. Elsie Bartholomew Bartholo-mew and Mrs. Geo. Clark of Goshen, Mrs. Chas. Peterson of Gunnison and Mrs. James Lacey of Exeter, Calif She leaves two sisters and a brother in Denmark. Funeral services have been arranged arrang-ed for tomorrow, Friday, at one o'clock. Services will be held at Manti Man-ti and the body will be laid to its final resting place at the Manti cemetery. |
