While it' is true the financial market mar-ket is at a low el ib in so far as the sale of municipal bonds are concerned con-cerned and at this time of reconstruction, reconstruc-tion, many are led to believe that the improvement work would cause a hardship in the additional taxation. But Gunnison neecji improvement and needs it badly, and if the citizens citi-zens will weigh the matter carefully and consider that to be abreast with neighboring cities, improvements must follow and it is hoped the progressives pro-gressives of the city will work in conjunction with the administration in carrying out the best plans to put Gunnison on the growing list. i Following is the letter which is to be mailed to the voters: To the Voters of Guftnison City: Before the present city administration administra-tion came into office there had been created a sidewalk district kiu:wn as "P'Striit. No. 1," and a contract let for the laying of the sidewalks, but no arrangements had been made for the sale of the improvement warrants. war-rants. Immediately upon taking-office the present city ocfliials made an investigation inves-tigation of the market for this class of warrants and found that the best figures they could get was about 80 cents on the dollar and with a poor market even at that figure. A sale at such it price1 would have increased the cos! of the 'sidewalk SO per cent to the property owners. ' With this in mind, the extremely high taxes and the adverse condition of the money market., we concluded that your interests would best be served by delaying the laying of tin; sidewalks until the warrants could i be sold for a reasonable amount. . A recent investigation of (he markets I shows that these warrants would sell at about the same figure as mentioned men-tioned above. We want to meet the wishes of the voters in this matter as well as in all matters pertaining to the administration administra-tion of the city affairs. While there is a crying necessity for improvements of this nature, we wish to ascertain your views in this respect.
