FINCH Fairview W. D. Candland, of Mt. Pleasant, without opposition, was named for state senator. Judge JJames W. Cherry, candidate, for supreme judge, placed Mr. Candland's name before the convention. Hyrum Christensen of Mayfield. Joseph Bagnell of Chester, and Alex Barton were the nominees for state reuresentratives. Christensen and Bagnell were victors for the offices. For the 4-year term of county commissioner, James D. Meyrick, of Mt. Pleasant, had a walk-away, there being no opposition and the Mt. Tleasatn man was named by ac-clamaion. ac-clamaion. Ephraim was beat for the office of 2-year county commissioner, C. James r..., .p tt : i L Gunnison republicans, in their efforts ef-forts to land a nominee on the county coun-ty ticket, failed, and Manti and Ephraim Eph-raim secured each a nominee, the rest of the ticket being filled with candidates from Mt. Pleasant, May-field, May-field, Chester, Moroni, Spring City and Fairview. Clifford Childs, of this city was nominated for the office of county clerk. Opposition was too srong and he went down to defeat. He was again named for the office of treasurer and carried a strong lead until the fourth ballot when his opponent forged ahead and won a victory. The convention held in this city last Saturday was largely attended and throughout the contests for the various offices were keen. Proceedings Proceed-ings were opened a 10:30 by County Chairman E. D. Anderson. Ernest Bamberger, republican nominee for United States senator was present and responded to an invitation to make an address to the convention. Mr. Bamberger spoke briefly and outlined his policy, should he be successful suc-cessful at the November election. N. L. Edmunds, presen incumbent, and C. H. Childs were pitted against each other for the office of county clerk. Edmunds had a big following follow-ing and had an easy victory. When the office of county treasurer treasur-er was called, . William Metcalf of Gunnison, made a strong plea for a representation on the ticket for Gunnison, and he named C. II. Childs. He stated that the republic-cans republic-cans had had nothing in the south end of the county for six years and emphasized the fact that "we are getting tired of being turned down." B. R. Justesen of Spring City, and Rulon Mortensen of Ephraim, were pitted against Childs for the office'. Mrs. Eliason received the nomination. The rules were suspended, after James H. Sanderson had been nominated nom-inated for sheriff, and without opposition op-position Sanderson was declared the candidate by acclamation. C. S. Auguson, of Fountain Green, was named for county assessor. A. W. Jensen, for county attorney, and L. Finch of Fairview, was the choice of the convention for surveyor. The last three candidates were nominated nominat-ed by acclamation. |
