Show NEW DEVICE IS EFFECTIVE Through a clever de vice, the invention in-vention of W. K. Walker, manager for the Midland Irrigation company, the difficulty in keeping the many wells free from mud and sand in the Uobbins tr?ct west of town, has been overcome and the management believes now that no more troubla will arise from the sources which have caused so much grief. The invention is none other than an air compressor and storage tank, operated by a gasoline engine. From the compressor a hose is connected to a half inch pipe. The later is lowered low-ered to the bottom of the well and the air pressure forces the mud and sand out, throwing it as high as fifteen fif-teen feet. The scheme has been tried on several of the wells and af-tr af-tr being cleaned of the mud and sand the water flows freely. Until Mr. Walker devised the new method it Jiad been the custors of using a force pump operated by men. This proved ineffective and slow and a very small percentage of the wells -. were flowing water. There are some 1200 wells in the tract and some time ago it was decided de-cided to drive the wells with a view of draining the land. Later the water was appropriated by the Midland Mid-land company to be used in the Delta Del-ta country for irrigation purposes. Manager Walker will continue the work of cleaning the wells and not alone will the water be taken from the land, as was first intended, but the supply for the irrigation company com-pany will be materially increased. |
