Show TURKISH FLEET DRIVES BACK GREEK SHIPS After Battle Turkish Warships Return Re-turn to Anchorage With Flags .. Flying and Bands Playing. Sedll-'Bahr, Dardanelles. Another naval battle was fought between the Turkish and Greek fleets Tuesday morning outside the entrance to the Dardanelles straits. After the battle the Turkish warships war-ships returned to their anchorage with flags flying and bands playing amid the enthusiastic applause of the crowds lining the shore. According to au eye-witness who verifies the official report of the engagement, en-gagement, after a long range exchange ex-change of shots the smaller Greek vessels retired, leaving the pride of the Greek navy, the cruiser Georgio Averoff, to bear the brunt of tne fighting. The cruiser seemed to be using only her small caliber guns and showed signs of having been struck by three or four shells. Finally .she slowly retired re-tired from the combat. The Greek torpedo .boats and submarines sub-marines remained behind an island under cover during the fighting. |
