Show SCH RANK PLEADS- GUILTY. Man Who Shot Colonel Roosevelt to be Examined by Lunacy Commission. Miwaukee, Wis. John Schrank on Tuesday pleaded guilty of attempting to murder Theodore Roosevelt and in his plea he sought to distinguish between be-tween an assault upon Roosevelt as a ''menace" and an attack upon Roosevelt Roose-velt as a citizen. Municipal Judge A. C. Brackus an-i an-i nounced upon reading a petition of i District Attorney Winifred C. Seabel that he would name later a commission j to examine into Schrank's mental con- dition. Less than 150 persons listened j to the proceedings and watched the small, compact form of Schrank as he stepped slowly to the bar--and entered his plea. Of this number twenty were detectives and haf a score deputy sheriffs who watched closely all persons per-sons in the room not known to them. |
