Show TWENTY-SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS Season's Improvements By Individuals In Gunnison. The improvements on homes and buoiness places in Gunuison, will this season alone foot up the neat sum of nearly twenty-seven thousand dollars. dol-lars. That's not so slow after going so steep with public improvements the paBt year or two. After all, it would seem the people here are not so bad off and you may as well mark it down that from now on Gunnison is going to grow. With our excellent water Bystem a new impetus has taken ta-ken hold of the people and several new substantial homes are being planned for the near future. Though not all of modern style or the most substantial it is certainly encouraging en-couraging to note what has been done in the way of private improvement and is now going ou this season. Some may have escaped our notice, but so far as ascertained here is the list: Ira Overfelt a 3 room brick bungalow bunga-low addition at a cost of p'robably $1,000. Juel Erickson has recently finished a frame dwelling of four rooms, with pantry and porch. The outlay figures fig-ures to about $850. Archie SorenBon has put an addition addi-tion of two rooms besides pantry, a closet and a veranda and remodeling the old rooms, making his home when completed quite cozey and attractive. The cost will run up to about $700. Alma Bartholowmew is putting in about 3,000 feet of cement walk on his premises, a cement porch and summer kitchen approach. The work is being dene under the direction direc-tion of John T. Christenson of Manti a former townsman here. When the cemeuting is completed Mr. Bartholomew Barthol-omew will repaint the cottage, expending ex-pending in improvement to his home altogether from $1,000 to $1,200. Niels C. Myrup is erecting a new brick cottage of five rooms and two verandas, a short distance over a block east on Center street. The cost when completed will run in the neighbor hood of $1,000. Harold Childs has a new three room frame cottage a block east on Third South street that will take better than $500 to complete. John S. Peterson has pat in about 300 feet of cament walk surrounding his home. Mr. Peterson is also ereet-iug ereet-iug a three-room frame cottage for tenanting, on the corner two blocks west on First South street. Mr. Peterson Pe-terson estimates the two improvements improve-ments at $800. John M, Knighton has spent probably prob-ably $200 in the erection of a neat square picket feoce fronting his prem ises. Lurv Ludvigson dips in for about $400 for a new cement cellar, kitchen kitch-en and porch at hia lower place ou First North street. Austin Mayfield has added tc- his dwelliug house to the extent of $200 and will expend anplher $100 improving im-proving the stable and barn. Hyrum Fredrickson has spent $150 on a cement cellar and other improvements improve-ments about his place. ' The Swalberg home has been given a cover of new shingles, a new cornice, a new porch with cement floor, and a repainting all a cost of about $400. Bishop RasmuBsen and Ed Childs have hud their homes repainted, costing cost-ing no less than $150 for the two, William Bardsley lessened his pile about $200 to pay for the addition of a new veranda, a new cornice and reshiDgling of his domicile. J. VV. Edwards has removed a thtae room frame house from the rear of Lis store and placed it on a vacant lot which heowns two and half blocks west on First Sotvth street. This with the extension of his store will coBt Mr. Edwards at least $2,000. About $1,000 has been expended. on improvements by the Gunnison Coop Co-op and about $400 by M. Beauregard & Son in remodeling their house for a hotel. Then last but not least we have S. M. Duggins investing close to $5,000 in a new store building. Work on this structure is is progressing nicely and is to be completed for the Golden Rule concern early in September,. Mr. Duggins states he will invest another $10,000 for a new opera house a short distance below be-low the C. W. & M. store on the west side of Main street, to be in readiness by November next.
