Show Unlawful to Sell or Offer for Sale Diseased Fruits. N. G. Brown, county horticultural inspector, residing at Mt. Pleasant is visiting each place in the county with a view of putting to a stop the peddling of wormy fruit. Mr. Brown is in earnest adout the matter and as in case of other places visited he has instructed the city marshal to keep a sharp lookout and report all offenders of the state horticultural law pertaining pertain-ing to the sale of infected fruit, which reads as follows : : Section li It shall be unlawful to sell or dispose of or have in one's possession for sale or barter, any fruit which is or has been infected with San Jose scale, or other scale insects, or the larvae of the codling moth, and the fact that such fruit bears the mark of any scale, or is worm eaten by the larvae of the codling moth Bhall be deemed conclusive evidence that such fruit is infected within the meaning of this ' section ; and the state and county inspector and the deputies are hereby given power to seize and destroy des-troy such infected fruit whenever they shall find that the same haa been packed, sold, shipped or offered for sale, or where the aame has been offered for sale, or is being held in any warehouse, store, salesroom or or other place for the purpose of being be-ing sold, bartered, shipped or exposed for sale or bartered ; and it ia eereb, y made the duty of said state inspector and said ceunty inspectors a id deputies to enforce the provisions of this seotion, and any person who shall violate the provisions of this Bection shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor misde-meanor ; provided, however, that any qualified" inspector or deputy chall immediately upon being notified inspect in-spect any shipments of fruits, and issue is-sue certificate of release or inspection. |
