Show Auld Brig cf Ayr. Is the Aid Brig of Ayr a fraud or a genuine relic of the past? Some time ago there was an oul-cry oul-cry against its proposed demolition and Scotsmen all the w-orld over sent money for its restoration. A few weeks ago Lord Rosebery reopened the Auld Brig and rhapsodized over It. But Mr. Hall-Blythe of Edinburgh boldly announced himself at the town planning conference as "one of the most active persons in condemning the Auld Brig of Ayr." "It is neither useful nor ornamen-tnl," ornamen-tnl," he said, "but people desired to retain It because Burns wrote a poem about it, Yet the Brig of Ayr Burns wrote about was not this bridge at all. "It is a mad and wild desire to retain re-tain such an ugly bridge," Mr. Hall- BIythe declared. |
