Show A el t go mma erm d H IW N gh G aft y a tf 11 i c reen iver 0 44 r t 16 aa V A s 1 x ta ra 41 00 k 4 al 4 ae k vol J t A HERE THE BODY OF RICHARD DUDLEY lies on the ground beside the road waiting for the he arrival of the coroner and undertaker dudley s skull was fractured his leg broken in several places and his head and arms showed multiple cuts and bruises green river journal photo pedestrian and pickup collide in an dost dust wind storm killed instantly A fat fatal al traffic accident occurred early saturday night on or t the high way just west of the green river bridge when a pedestrian and a pickup truck collided head on richard B dudley age 36 of pasco washington was instantly killed one half mile east of green river rive r while walking east in the center of the lane of oncoming on coming traffic the tragic accident occurred during the short wind dust and ram rain squall which cassea passed through green river about 8 30 to rpm p rn the red pick up truck belonging to H B miller drilling contractor of green river was proceeding to ward town when the fiegure of mr dudley suddenly loomed up in the front of the headlights mr miller who was driving said that he jammed on his brakes but did not even have time to swerve before the impact mr miller said that he had been traveling carefully on account of the storm and had also slowed down because the car in back of him wanted to pass deputy sheriff of grand county reid somerville who was the daiv er of the car in back of mr mil ler corroborated this statement mr somerville said that he saw the figure of a man suddenly visible between the headlights of miller s truck since the accident happened in grand county officials of that county were immediately called to come to the scene although reid somerville deputy and juvenile agent actually witnessed the accident both sheriff john stocks and the coroner of grand county came from moab as quick i I 1 ly as possible trooper joe arnold of the highway patrol was also present city marshal harmon weber of 0 gr green een river who is also deputy sheriff of grand county was at the scene of the accident m a mata ter of minutes mr weber and mr somerville are to be commended on the man iner ner in which they handled the affair there was no traffic jam and all cars that stopped were those of the officials who had been called to investigate the affair and the press car which came to make pictures and report on the accident the officers concluded that the accident was unavoidable and no charges were filed it was reported mr dudley had been staying in green river for several days look ing for work he lived at noi douglas in pasco washington it was determined from papers found on him that he had a sister living in american forks utah at this writing it is not known what other relatives he had the body was taken to moab logan bedier farmer in front ot of whose house the accident occurred said that he heard the thud of the impact and ran out to see what had happened he found the man already dead with his skull fractured leg broken in several places laces and multiple cuts and bruises es on his face and arms k THIS IS HOW the front end of the 11 II B miller truck looked after the collision in which richard B dudley was instantly killed saturday night at t about 8 45 P M it is believed that dudley s head struck the top of the engine hood causing it to be badly dented and g the body wa was drugged dragged about 20 feet after the impact it was reported green river journal photo |
