Show A Belligerant Suffragist IT IS dangerous to fight woman suffrage in France or even to make fun of it. Mile. Gouden, who is only just out of her teens, is ! the editor of a suffrage newspaper, a lecturer, ' and has just written a book, the burden of which is a plea to all women to practice celib- acy. A couple of editors reviewed the book and one of them intimated that it was a case of "sour grapes" with Mile. Gouden, upon which she promptly sent two young lady friends With challenges for a duel. One of them avoided the seconds by going on a sudden journey; the other responded that he could not fight a woman, but would gladly meet any man who would champion the injured lady's cause, whereupon she published an article holding hold-ing up the two editors to scorn and denouncing Al them as the most despicable of all cowards. Anybne can see what a box those edltois are in; especially because 'they are Frenchmen and pub- . lie opinion in Paris would indicate that the peo- pie are not more than half their friends. w |
